Liang Yusheng. The Storms of the Escort Agency and Enmity of the Magic Sword. Hong Kong: Wai Chin Book Store, circa late 1950s to early 1960s. Four volumes (total): Vols. 1 and 5 of Storms of the Escort Agency and Vols. 1 and 16 of Enmity of the Magic Sword. Traditional Chinese vertical text, pictorial color wraps with advertisement panels on rear. These early installments represent two of Liang Yusheng's foundational wuxia epics, originally serialized in Hong Kong newspapers and issued by Wai Chin Book Store as low-priced paperbacks for mass readers. Together they illustrate the transition from classical chivalric romance to modern martial-arts fiction that defined Hong Kong's 1950s literary scene. Each volume features dynamic illustrated covers and period printing on characteristic pulp stock. Condition: Very Good overall. Mild edge rubbing and toning to wraps; bindings sound; interiors clean and unmarked. Covers bright with only light creases. Uniformly well-preserved for fragile mid-century Hong Kong editions. Imprint: "Wai Chin Book Store, 64 Wai Ching Street, 1/F, Kowloon - Printed in Hong Kong." Wai Chin Book Store operated in Jordan / Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon, founded in 1954 by Shum Bun-ying: Pinyin Shen Benying) and specialized in popular fiction and wuxia serials through the 1960s. Their color-illustrated paperbacks launched Liang Yusheng's career and established the commercial format for modern martial-arts novels. About the Author: Liang Yusheng (1924-2009), born Chen Wentong, was a founding figure of the "New School" of Hong Kong wuxia fiction whose serialized works inspired both Jin Yong and Gu Long. His fiction blends history, romance, and moral philosophy with fantasy combat and patriotic themes.
