First edition. Gilt lettering on spine is worn away, readable with effort, corners rubbed and worn, but a tight and sound good or better copy lacking the dust jacket. A collection of short stories. Djuna Barnes' own copy Signed by her in ink: ""Djuna Barnes. return to 14 East 9th St."" The address has been struck through by Barnes in pencil, and she has replaced it with a new address: ""111 Waverly Place."" Additionally Barnes has made small pencil marks by seven stories on the contents pages. Both of the addresses listed were apparently brief stopovers, and are a few minutes' walk from the small apartment at 5 Patchin Place where Barnes spent the last 42 years of her life. Barnes was one of the first American authors to openly and honestly write stories with lesbian characters.
