Ray Bradbury (1951) 'The Silver Locusts', UK first edition, first printing, published by Rupert Hart-Davis. Signed and inscribed by Bradbury on the ffep: ""For John Baxter! Good wishes from Ray Bradbury, Aug. 12, 1980"". Inscribed to fellow science-fiction writer and bibliophile John Baxter. In addition, two NASA photographs from the NASA Mars Exploration Rover Mission. The first photograph shows either the 'Spirit' or 'Opportunity' Rover (they were twin rovers and of the same design, operating on Mars between 2004-2010, and 2004-2019 respectively). Ray humorously inscribed the first photograph with ""My Car on Mars Ray Bradbury"" on the front, and once more on the back ""My Car on Mars Ray B"". The second image shows a Martian sunrise inscribed by Ray: ""Love Ray Bradbury"". Provenance of the signed NASA images: We have obtained these photographs from an auction house in California. The images were consigned by a NASA employee. Notice the difference in Bradbury's handwriting between the book which was signed in 1980 and the images that were signed in the late 2000s. Bradbury suffered a stroke in 1999 leaving him reliant on a wheelchair. His handwriting deteriorated further towards the end of his life. Condition of the book: a near fine book in a very good dust jacket. Slight fade on the spine, content clean without any scribbles. Small bookseller label at the corner of the front pastedown as shown. No foxing. Dust jacket is not price clipped, with some edge wear and a tear as shown. 'The Silver Locusts' is the UK first edition of 'The Martian Chronicles', originally published in the United States in 1950. 'Silver Locusts' is one of the stories featured in the book, but why the UK publisher did not retain the original title is a mystery. 'The Martian Chronicles' is a landmark book in its genre and beloved by many fans. NASA has paid tribute to Bradbury's achievement with his Mars stories by naming the Curiosity Rover (operational since 6 August 2012) landing site after him. First and Fine
