First edition, first printing, not the later reprinted before publication. The ""reprinted before publication"" variant in early editions indicates a second print run which the publisher ordered after the initial run. This book also features a signed inscription by the author on the title page, rather than the usual one that is laid in. The jacket does not have the usual sunning, especially the spine. To find all three of these qualities in a book that is now 60 years old is very rare. The book is clean throughout. The front board has very minor marking, and the top and base of the spine are slightly bumped. The jacket is not price clipped, and unusually, the spine is not faded. Very minor wear to the edges. We have sold multiple copies of this title, but with the qualities described, this is undoubtedly the best we have seen. Very rare in this condition.
