E.O. Wilson's copy of this uncommon anthology providing bios of and excerpts from all the General Nonfiction Pulitzer winners across the thirty years since the inception of the category in 1962. Laid in is a typed letter signed (TLS) from the editor Heinz-Dietrich Fischer to Wilson in 1995 conveying an advanced complimentary copy. Wilson of course wontwoPulitzers, the first in 1979 forOn Human Nature, the second with Bert Holldobler in 1991 forThe Ants, which makes this copy, well, doubly cool. Other science and environmental writers represented include René Dubos, Annie Dillard, William Warner, Edwin Way Teale, Carl Sagan, and Richard Rhodes. Fischer provides an introduction on the history of the award and provides brief information on the deliberations and finalists year by year. Pale blue-greencloth, dark blue endpapers, sporadic black and white illustrations. A fine copy without a dust jacket, as issued. A great reference itself but more importantly a significant memento of Wilson's accomplishment as the only writer to win twice in this category .
