Reims en Ruines. Dix Planches Graves A L'Eau-Forte par R. Varin. Reims in Ruins. Ten engraved plates by Raoul Varin showing views of The Notre Dame Cathedral (Reims not Paris) following bombing in the First World War. Printed by Vernant et Dolle. Undated but known to have been produced circa 1920. Each plate signed by the artist in pencil. Contained in original cardboard folio with pastedown image on the front. Size of engravings: 19 x14 1/2 or 49 x 36.5 cms. Condition: Very Good. The folder is quite worn and broken at the spine with the fabric that held the two boards together no longer being present. Only parts of the ribbons that tied it together remain. The engraved plates are a complete set. They are foxed and marked by other signs of age. One is creased at the corner, one along the top edge, one has a mark at the top left of the print itself, one (the reddish coloured engraving) has a small dent in the paper close to the top of the right hand cathedral tower. In the main however the engraved part of the images themselves are not affected by any damage to the surround. Please ask if you would like to see more photographs. A large item that is likely to require additional postage if shipped from the uk.
