This original sketch by Garth Williams shows the 'disagreeable old prof of Maths"" which is written across the top of the page in the hand of Garth Williams who also signed the art with his initials ""G.W."" along the lower right. This stunningly detailed piece depicts the elder mouse, with eye glasses, holding his cane and sitting on a box of safety matches. The sheet measures 11"" x 8.5"" with the art in excellent condition and in strong vibrant graphite. The final drawing rendered in ink is shown to the right for review only. The art is in excellent condition and would be stunning framed. **Garth Williams was a prominent illustrator of several of the most prominent childrenâ s books including Stuart Little (1945), Charoletteâ s Web (1952), The Cricket In Times Square, and The Rescuers (1959). Many of his original illustrations from these book have sold attaining high premiums, including his original illustration of the dust jacket for Charoletteâ s Web which realized $155,000 at auction in 2010, and between $10,000 and $45,000 for original artwork of the interior pages.
