Encyclopedia Palestinnica (The Encyclopedia of Palestine) is the most extensive pictorial and documentary resource yet published on the history and culture of Palestine in the Ottoman period. This work is marking 500 years since the start of the Ottoman period in Jerusalem and Palestine when Sultan Selim I entered Jerusalem at the end of 1516. Encyclopedia Palestinnica consists of 24 volumes of around 7 000 pages covering different cultural and historical aspects of Palestine from 1516 until 1918 including much unpublished information on the history and culture of Palestine Includes bibliographical references. English text with facsimiles chiefly in Arabic. The author of the Encyclopedia Dr. Mohammad Hashem Ghosheh is a prominent historian of Jerusalem. He has published dozens of books on the history of Jerusalem and Islamic civilization. The Encyclopedia is one of the main sources documenting the history and cultural intellectual and human role in the development of Palestine over the four centuries of the Ottoman period.
