Translation Policies for Foreign Languages in Shanghai China (Hardcover)

This book examines translation policies (TP) for foreign languages in Shanghai China and aims to propose effective TP for communication between authorities and foreigners. By adopting the 3-level framework of TP (management practices and beliefs) (González Núñez 2016a; Meylaerts 2017) it systematically explores how these three aspects interact or conflict including the dynamics between national and local management as well as the interplay between local management practices and beliefs. The author employs both qualitative and quantitative methods drawing on data from questionnaires interviews and available official documents to ensure methodological rigor and provide a comprehensive analysis. The methods and findings will enrich understanding of TP in the local setting of Shanghai as well as being applicable to global contexts. Consequently this book will appeal to a wide range of readers including policymakers neighborhood committee staff researchers foreigners translators and students in Translation Studies and related fields.
